Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, says infrastructure projects under President Bola Tinubu will help the party win votes in the 2027 general elections, The Punch reported on November 1.
Speaking during a Saturday inspection of construction along the Akwanga-Jos-Gombe section of the Trans-Sahara Superhighway, Yilwatda argued that voters would judge the administration by visible improvements. He presented the road as an example of the government’s investment in communities that he said had endured decades of limited attention.
The Federal Ministry of Works has described the Akwanga-Jos section as a 125-kilometre stretch of a larger route extending through Bauchi, Gombe and Biu to Maiduguri. Yilwatda said planned features included surveillance cameras, continuous lighting, police outposts and emergency trauma clinics, intended to improve security and access to care.
James Baba, the project’s equipment coordinator and public relations officer, said heavy machinery had been mobilised to the Jos axis. He put the contractor’s target at about 10 kilometres of earthworks before Christmas, with another 30 kilometres expected to be delivered in 2027.
Baba also reported that trial work on the concrete pavement had begun, with approximately 400 metres completed. He said the ministry had specified concrete rather than asphalt to improve durability.
